Walk for Wishes Superhero 5K – Race #10

Walking for our little warriors

Of all my walks and runs this one really hit home.  2 years ago my great niece Ellerie Becca was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor.  All I could think of was .. what the hell is a child doing getting cancer.  But through our war against this cancer I found that this becoming a more common occurrence.  In the United States in 2016, an estimated 10,380 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed among children from birth to 14 years.

These little warriors give up some much as they are battling their diseases.  They lose time at school, playing outside with other kids, going to birthday parties.  But Make a Wish is an amazing organization that grant wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical conditions like Elleries.

Make a Wish granted Ellerie’s wish in November of 2015 sending her and her mom and dad to Disney Aulani in Hawaii.  As a family we took this time to join them and celebrate Ellerie kicking cancers butt!

But now we have a chance to pay it forward by participating Make a Wish Oregon’s Walk for Wishes a 5kish walking with children battling their disease, survivors and families.  We were Team Ellerie and we were there in force!

The walk took us through the Oregon Zoo and lets just say no walk has ever meant so much as this one did. Ellerie had so many family and friends that came to support her and they came from all over.

So we hope that sometime in my life there will be no more need for Make a Wish, for having a Walk to support Childhood cancer.. Hope is what we need its all we have.  Ending Childhood cancer is something we all can walk towards!
